“Ab Buss”
Pakistan is country in which the women face adversity from men and that becomes way out of hand when we hear cases regarding men raping women. It goes to show how important it is to highlight this situation and in turn raise awareness against this so that women in the future are safe from such heinous acts committed by some horrific men present in society. It calls for action against these barbaric men who feel no remorse when committing such a heinous act and hence, people ask for one thing and one thing only, that these men be brought to justice. In addition, the people also want the women in society to be safe and they are of the view that those involved in such acts should be given severe punishment for their acts.
The September motorway rape incident in the country was one that left the entire state of Pakistan in utter shock and dismay. It shall be remembered as one of the most horrific tragedies in the years to come and we can only imagine what the victim and her family must be facing. The incident itself – along with the victim-blaming narrative being given by some which included a senior official, who was heading the investigation, serves as a brutal reminder regarding the state of disparity women in Pakistan have to go through each and every day of their lives.

As a bid to counter such narratives, express support and show empowerment of women, a new short film which has been titled, “Ab Buss”, starring Sanam Saeed in the lead role has managed to encapsulate the ensuing narrative around the incident to some extent. The show airs on the Pakistani web-series platform, See Prime, the digital short revolves around an average suburban woman who is taking extreme measures she prepares for a trip. However, this could not be further from the truth and as it turns out, Maya is taking precautionary measures instead. When her husband suddenly walks in on Maya, it was revealed to her that her father had suffered a heart attack and she has to travel all the way to him along with her daughter.
