Yesterday was a monumental day in the history of the PTI Government, especially in the life of Sadiq Sanjrani, who survived a no-confidence motion set up by the opposition. The votes were 50 to 45 in favor of Sanjrani staying as Senate Chairman, which are razor thin margins and he must have had his heart in his throat for a while because of how close the margins were.

Usually, such a motion is only carried out by the opposition when it is completely confident that it would be able to win the motion. However, unfortunately for the opposition this wasn’t the case and PPP and PMLN aren’t pleased with the results. Bilawal Bhutto lashed out at the results,

Must Read: A budget phone with all you want to have

With 50 senators voting to oust him [Sanjrani] how can he still remain as the custodian of this house?Today we all could can see how this selected government has openly attacked not only the Senate but our democratic values,We will not spare those who betrayed their party…this is nothing more than a stab in the back.We will raise our voice in Senate and on every pubic forum against this selected government,Even in defeat we have exposed this sham democracy and blatant horsetrading……what was the desk thumping about….Do they [government] think this is a victory for them.

Accusing the government of horsetrading is a very serious allegation which he could be called on far, but for now PTI takes a sigh of relief as they are able to maintain Sanjrani in the post. PMLN Leader also spoke regarding the matter in similar words and called for an all-party conference next week to decide a future course of action.

“From now on in every Senate session the opposition will try its best to unmask those who were involved in horse-trading and the buying and selling of votes.”
