A new report has revealed some rather interesting information with regards to a new trend coming in as far as smartphone brands go. Apparently, companies are now offering their phones with the aid of fewer camera sensors than before due to the fact that there is a severe shortage of supplies.

The report that comes in adds that OEMs are now in the process of shifting towards higher resolution image sensors for the sake of their rear modules that now happen to house a fewer number of cameras. The primary reason behind this particular shift is reportedly down to the ongoing shortage of semiconductors that has of course affected a large number of industries all across the globe.

Over the course of the third quarter of this particular year, shipments of smartphones that made their way with triple camera setups rose to the same levels as models that came in with the aid of quad camera setups. The triple camera segment got boosted further then when even the low cost entry handsets saw a rise in the adoption of multiple camera sensors on the rear. On the other hand then, the market share as far as devices with four rear sensors is concerned saw a dip, falling behind phones that featured with triple cameras. Interestingly enough then, the market share for dual cameras, which of course had been in decline for quite the while now, also saw a rise during this same period.

Much has been made of this trend, and it has been suggested that the reason behind this particular trend lies around the fact that due to the shortage in supplies, companies have continued to cut costs. It has also further been suggested that smartphone brands find themselves in the prices of reducing the number of cameras from four to three.
