The IT industry of Pakistan have been improving drastically past few years with the current generation providing loads of start-ups and companies that are experts in IT systems and whatnot. Whether it be computer software, hardware and software consultancy services, freelancing, telecom or call centre, recent data has showed a significant rise in the output from these areas of the industry.

Upon reviewing data from the last year, the growth in the IT industry is apparent, especially in one specific field that stood out with its incredible numbers, Software Consultancy. For the noobs out there, the basic task of a Software Consultant is to analyse company computer systems to determine how software can make processes more efficient. In other words, it means the integration of software into a firm in such a way that it decreases human effort and makes the business processes time and cost efficient. This side of the industry has been booming and producing exceptional results.

According to the data updated by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the exports of software consultancy services provided by ICT companies grew to $175.127 million in the period of July to December as compared with $140.471, showing an increase of $34.6 million or 24 percent on year-on-year basis.

The growth in exports of software consultancy service is more than the overall exports of ICT services which stood at $540 million with a paltry growth of 3.8 percent in the first half of the financial year 2018-19. This means not only the business of software consultancy is leading the overall IT sector but the growth of other fields of exports remained stagnant or downward.

The growth in software consultancy services have not just been a sudden rise this year, but have shown at upward trajectory the past couple of years showing great since and with a little more investment from the government, it sure is destined to reach new heights. These results are evidence that if the Government was to prioritize this industry and to take a unified initiative to explore markets to further increase these exports, Pakistan would soon be considered among the front-runners of Software Consultancy with such potential.
