Telenor Group will cut 170 jobs in Norway as it re-organizes its connection with broadband and technology divisions, the plans to take effect on 1 April.

BeritSvendsen, CEO of Telenor Norway, in a statement on Thursday, says that “We are working to establish new competencies in the company to meet the rapid technological development,”

Telenor company is going to have a technology shift, extending its digitalization regarding new customer needs., BeritSvendsen says, “Competition in our market is tighter than ever before; if we are to maintain our competitiveness in the future, such changes are crucial, there are changes in the way we need to work.”

The changes will be implemented from 1 April, as Telenor’s transformation from a traditional telco to a digital service provider, the company said, it will require updated efficient employees and more cost-effective operations.

The employees who are made redundant will be provided severance packages and restructuring aid with other significant incentives. Svendsen added ‘It’s hard to make changes that mean good colleagues will lose their jobs. Our main priority going forward is to ensure an orderly process, with useful information to our employees who will be affected.”

Telenor Norway heads over 24 offices with approximately 3,900 staff. Telenor exclaims that no office closures will be made because of the rebuilding of the technological advances.

In the beginning of February, Telenor Group president and CEO SigveBrekke presented his notions about the new plans of the company and said digital platforms are key to company’s future, noting a strategy to digitize its core business will leave it better placed to “build strong and engaging customer relations” and capitalize on the “efficient opportunities that digitization brings.”
