Sony’s latest flagship console is perhaps one of the most hottest items present in the market right now. At the end of last year, the console was so hard to buy that an entire black market industry began doing rounds in which the scalpers could end up easily selling one of the consoles for four times the list price that it cane with.

With that in mind, it really shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise to hear that the Ps5 sales just ended up making a whole new record. In accordance with what a recent Twitter thread read, Sony actually moved more units of the console in the US during the first five months than any other console in the history of the same. This latest record makes way in tandem with the previous record which actually made the Ps5 the fastest selling console in total dollar sales.

The thread came out courtesy of NPD, and while NPD does usually disclose hard numbers, it didn’t do so here. However, it was the case that Nintendo actually claimed to have sold 4.8 million units of its Switch console over the course of the first ten months in “the Americans.” As such though, we can actually extrapolate that Sony almost certainly sold millions and millions of Ps5 units.

In more simpler words : the Ps5 is indeed selling like hot cakes. Of course that probably doesn’t mean too much to the thousands of people looking forward to buying the console but just can’t get their hands on one due to the massive demand.

And of course courtesy of the ongoing global chip shortage and also an assumed artificial scarcity marketing plan adopted by Sony itself – proceeding on to buy a Ps5 at its list price has been a very difficult thing to achieve.
