The Finnish startup HMD Global run by former Nokia execs maker of the the branded phones under license has introduced three new Nokia smartphone models running Google’s Android software. All the three phones were unveiled at an event in Moscow and this happened for the first time that the upgraded phones get the Google Assistant.

Nokia 5.1 is leading phone of the three devices and is an update of Nokia 5. This year’s Nokia 5.1 has a slightly larger 5.5″ screen in a slightly thinner body. Improved back camera with higher resolution has also been given to this phone for 189 euro, or $218.

According to HMD, the phone’s MediaTek Helio P18 processor gives  40% faster performance than last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 430.

The Nokia 3 of 2017 has been upgraded to Nokia 3.1 (the middle tier phone). The upgraded Nokia 3.1 also gets a slightly larger screen gone now up to 5.2″. A faster processor and upgraded camera has also been given to this phone.

HMD has also upgraded its Nokia 2 phone only seven months after it was introduced. And the updated version is dubbed as the Nokia 2.1. The Nokia 2.1 model gains a larger 5.5″ screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, which gives the phone a 50% speed boost over the original. Nokia 2.1 is priced at $115.

All three updated phones have been scheduled to hit the markets initially in July. Only the 2.1 & 3.1 are expected for the U.S. market, expectedly by August.

HMD Global reignited the once dominant Nokia brand last year with a series of all-new smartphones and did revive simpler phones from some years back. In a $100 million fundraising round in April 2018,  the startup was valued at more than $1 billion.

According to CEO Florian Seiche, who worked at Nokia, HTC & Microsoft before helping found HMD, the company aims to rank among the top smartphone makers worldwide.
