Just last year, Huawei took upon itself to sell its budget mobile brand Honor so as to make sure that it can survive the tough sanctions which have been placed by the US on Huawei. The move was to make way for the possibility that Honor could work with firms such as Qualcomm and Intel to source chips as well as other critical components which are required within smartphones as well as laptops amongst other devices. However, with the latest turn of events, it has actually been claimed that Honor too might find itself in a bit of trouble.

In accordance with the latest reports, officials placed at four federal agencies just last week decided on to vote last week whether or not to put Honor on the Commerce Department’s entity list. If Honor is indeed placed on the list, then it would mean that US companies would not be allowed to work with the brand. It has been claimed that the vote went evenly down the middle. Indeed officials belonging to the Pentagon and Energy Department were reportedly in favor of putting the brand on this list, while their counterparts belonging to the State Department and the Commerce department were not in favor of this move.

As we now have a deadlock, it’s up to the political appointees of said agencies to decide on what needs to be done. If they too can’t decide on what needs to be done, there’s the possibility that the issue will then be referred to President Joe Biden.

This of course comes as a major worry for Honor because the major reason behind it moving away from Huawei was so that it could not be placed on the Entity list – which now seems like quite the possibility. However, for now, no decision has been made so not much can be said, and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
