If you are keeping tabs on the latest talk of the web which has emerged from the world’s most popular and used messaging app, you would know that WhatsApp has started issuing their users a notification whereby they inform the users that they will be updating their terms and privacy policy. Now you may think this isn’t that horrifying as it sounds at first glance but you should note that, WhatsApp has also made the announcement that their app will now not only store your messages and media, but will also share your data with Facebook and other affiliated companies.

As per the notification that has been issued to users, WhatsApp’s new terms and privacy policy shall be put in to effect from February 8, 2021.

The new terms and privacy policy include the following updates:

  1. Additional information on how WhatsApp handles your data
  2. Changes in communication with businesses
  3. How WhatsApp shares data with Facebook and its products

In regards to the new update issued by WhatsApp, this has sent the worldwide web in to a frenzy. In addition, the popular app has also added a new section in its updated terms and policy which makes note of how this will work with other Facebook companies and how it plans to share the data with them in order to  “help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market our Services and their offerings”. In simpler terms, WhatsApp will effectively start storing and selling your data to third-parties. Your entire persona on WhatsApp and the total amount of messages, media, emojis that you have been able to store thus far is about to become a product for Facebook!

Now for the big question at hand! if you refuse to accept these new terms, will WhatsApp block your account? 

The answer to that question is sadly, a yes. The notification issued by WhatsApp reads that: “After this date, you’ll need to accept these updates to continue using WhatsApp,”. By reading the above message you can begin to see the trend over here, WhatsApp has made it abundantly clear that if you continue to use this application then you have to meed the condition of accepting the new terms and policy. Alright then, time to bid farewell to WhatsApp!
