WhatsApp to replace Archived chats with “Read Later”

One of the biggest and the most used messaging platforms on the internet, WhatsApp has been facing quite a lot of controversy in recent times after their latest update claims that they will use users data and ship that to other applications such as Facebook. The Facebook-owned WhatsApp has gotten a lot of resentment from its millions of users worldwide after the recent developments however, the company is still working on giving users an enhanced experience on the application is currently working on a new feature that will replace the archived chats option that is currently on WhatsApp. The update will replace the Archive inbox with a “Read later” section.

The feature has been spotted by WABetainfo, who usually works on uncovering upcoming WhatsApp features by getting the beta versions and using it before writing a report on what the new update has brought with it. While discussing the new feature, he wrote in his blog that: “When a chat is added in your archive, the user doesn’t receive notifications from it because all archived chats will be automatically muted, in order to reduce interruptions”.

What this means is that once a user has added his/her chat to the newly formed “Read later” section, the chat will go in to an inbox which is just like the current Archived chats, however, in the Read Later section, the chat will be muted forever, unlike before. This will allow the user to move unneeded and unnecessary chats out of the way and will not have them interrupt you with the notifications. Of course, users will always have the option with them to access the “Read later” section and check what their messages were at any time. In addition, users can also configure the Read later inbox and send chats back to the main screen when they get new messages or keep them muted.
