X (formerly Twitter) has been found to have the lowest rate of blocking objectionable and unlawful content among major social media platforms, according to a recent document from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

The PTA’s report, covering the period from January 2021 to June 2024, reveals that X processed 69,372 URLs but only blocked 41,414 of them, resulting in a compliance rate of 59.70 percent. This places X at the bottom of the list for adherence to content-blocking requests.

In contrast, TikTok achieved the highest compliance rate, blocking 107,003 out of 109,359 URLs, which equates to a compliance rate of 97.85 percent. This far surpasses other major platforms in responding to the PTA’s content-blocking requests. The flagged content includes various categories such as defamatory, immoral, anti-Islamic, anti-security, sectarian, and contempt of court.

Facebook also demonstrated a strong compliance rate, blocking 79,904 of 94,141 URLs, or 84.88%. Instagram followed with an 85.60% compliance rate, blocking 18,260 out of 21,333 URLs. YouTube and Likee also showed high compliance rates, with YouTube blocking 36,351 out of 41,954 URLs (86.64%) and Likee blocking 5,530 out of 5,760 URLs (96.01%).

Dailymotion and SnackVideo showed lower but still notable compliance rates. Dailymotion blocked 23 out of 32 URLs, achieving a compliance rate of 71.88%, while SnackVideo blocked 6,829 out of 7,241 URLs, resulting in a compliance rate of 94.31%.

Overall, the PTA’s findings highlight significant differences in how effectively various social media platforms handle requests to remove objectionable and unlawful content.
