In an effort to diversify its services, X is developing a new video conferencing feature called ‘X Conference,’ which is designed to rival established platforms like Zoom. The development of this feature aligns with X’s broader ambition to transform into an ‘everything app’ that meets various user and business needs.

The existence of X Conference was revealed by Chris Park, an employee at X, who disclosed details about the internal testing currently underway. According to Park, the tool is in its early development stages and currently offers basic multi-person video conferencing capabilities. While these features may not yet match the advanced functionalities of Zoom or Google Meet, significant upgrades are expected in the near future.

Park mentioned that upcoming enhancements could include the ability to pin speakers and improved notification systems, positioning X Conference as a potential competitor to platforms like Google Hangouts, Zoom, AWS Chime, and Microsoft Teams.

Additional insights into X Conference were provided earlier this month by app researcher Nima Owji, who shared a screenshot indicating that the platform might support spatial audio and offer built-in captions. Despite these promising features, it remains uncertain whether X Conference will stand out in the highly competitive video conferencing market. Moreover, the company has yet to confirm if or when this feature will be made available to the general public, leaving questions about the demand for another video conferencing tool in a saturated market.
