During an exercise on Saturday, two fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) collided in mid-air during which they were training, approximately 300 kilometers south of New Delhi, in a tragic incident.
As of right now, the cause of the incident is unknown. The crash site was located in the Parhadgarh forests, and it is not yet known what caused the accident. One local administrator in Madhya Pradesh has reported that two of the three crew members of one of the jets have been rescued and have been taken to a hospital for treatment.
- Currently, there is a lack of clarity regarding the status of the third member of the crew. As well as this, no information has been disclosed regarding the crew members of the second plane that was involved in the accident.
It has been reported that the jets involved in the crash are a Sukhoi-30 and a Mirage 2000, with officials from the Defense Ministry dispatched to the crash site to investigate.
As you may know, India has experienced a string of aviation accidents involving its military air fleet in recent years.
The state of Arunachal Pradesh, in a region near China’s disputed and militarized border with India, was the site of a helicopter crash in October 2021 that resulted in the death of five army soldiers.
Moreover, in December 2021, India’s defense chief, General Bipin Rawat, was one of 13 people killed in a crash of a Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter that occurred in India.
