It has been reported that Motorola has launched a new gadget called the Defy Satellite Link, which can be used to support satellite communication capabilities on iPhones and Android smartphones.
Motorola has developed this technology in collaboration with Bullitt Group and it will be demonstrated at MWC 2023 in Barcelona as part of their collaboration.
According to Motorola officials, the Defy Satellite Link can be connected via Bluetooth to smartphones and provide two-way communication via satellite using the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app, which can be downloaded from the Motorola website.
The messages that are sent using the device are sent through geosynchronous satellites, which makes it possible for the device to provide much-needed communications even in areas with limited or no cellular coverage.
Defy Satellite Link is a compact device that weighs only 70 grams and enables users to share their location and to contact emergency services when needed. As well as the SOS distress button, there is a location reporting button on the device that can be used even if the paired smartphone is not nearby as well.

The Motorola Defy Satellite Link is powered by a MediaTek chip and features a 600mAh battery that lasts for multiple days, with additional features including eSIM, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, Bluetooth 5.1 and more.
In addition, the Defy Satellite Link supports IP68 dust and water resistance and also passes the Mil-Spec 810H test for guaranteed performance during rapid temperature changes and resistance to vibration and humidity.
The Motorola Defy Satellite Link will go on sale in April this year for $99 (currently about RMB 684).
Motorola will also offer a package (starting at $149, currently about RMB 1,030) with an annual subscription that allows users to send and receive up to 30 two-way messages and SOS assistance per month.
The cost of sending and receiving satellite messages is charged to the subscription plan, Bullitt said, with no cost to the recipient. In addition to Defy Satellite Link, Motorola and Bullitt will also build satellite communication capabilities into the Motorola defy 2 smartphones.
