Caretaker Federal Minister for Information, Murtaza Solangi, has responded to claims made by Senator Mushtaq Ghani regarding the abolition of Pakistan Studies from university degree programs. Solangi clarified that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has not issued any decisions or recommendations to universities regarding the removal of Pakistan Studies from their syllabi at the graduation level.
Addressing the Senate, Solangi emphasized that neither the concerned ministry nor the HEC has proposed the elimination of Pakistan Affairs or any other course from undergraduate syllabi. He affirmed that all undergraduate policies suggested by the HEC comply with the essential standards for such programs. Additionally, Solangi underscored that universities maintain autonomy within the bounds of their respective regulations.

Highlighting ongoing initiatives, the caretaker minister mentioned the integration of a course on Pakistan’s ideology and constitution into all undergraduate degree programs. He described this course as a fusion of Pakistan Studies and constitutional studies. Furthermore, Solangi disclosed that the HEC is currently in discussions with relevant stakeholders to formulate a two-credit-hour mandatory course for all undergraduate degree programs.
