The Karachi Electric has filed an application with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) requesting a tariff increase due to fuel cost adjustments.

The KE is proposing an increase of Rs18.86 per unit for seven months and a reduction of 29 paisas per unit for two months in its fuel adjustment calculations.

Nepra will make a decision on this application following a hearing.

Just a day earlier, Nepra announced an increase in electricity tariffs due to fuel cost adjustments. The regulatory authority has raised the electricity cost by Rs2.83 per unit, effective for bills issued in May 2024.

This decision will result in an additional burden of Rs26 billion on consumers. However, it will not apply to K-Electric customers or lifeline consumers.
