On Friday, the National Assembly demonstrated unanimous support for Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation and condemned the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. During the second meeting of its eighth session, the lower house passed a resolution expressing condolences to Haniyeh’s family and the people of Palestine. The resolution received backing from both the opposition and government benches.

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, denounced Haniyeh’s killing, labeling Israel as a terrorist state responsible for mass killings and human rights abuses. Siddiqui criticized the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) for its response to the Gaza conflict and called on the Muslim world to act beyond symbolic resolutions. He described the attack on Haniyeh as an assault on both the Muslim community and the Pakistani nation.

Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions, Amir Muqam, supported this view, describing the resolution as a significant move and urging all parliamentary parties to participate in the Youm-e-Istehsaal-e-Kashmir walk on August 5 to protest Indian actions in Jammu and Kashmir.

MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of JUI-F condemned the missile attack on Haniyeh in Tehran and criticized Israel’s claim to Palestinian land as illegitimate. Pakistan Muslim League-Zia chief, MNA Ijazul Haq, denounced the attack as a breach of Iran’s sovereignty and called for unity on other national issues.

Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), proposed filing a case against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu for crimes against humanity.

The National Assembly session was adjourned and will resume on Monday, August 5, at 11:30 am.
