Pakistan has successfully conducted its second trial of a social media firewall, designed to regulate online content and bolster national security. Internet service providers have implemented this firewall, which allows for the blocking of social media applications and the restriction of audio and video downloads.

The installation and testing of the firewall briefly impacted mobile signals and internet services across the country. This initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to curb controversial content and prevent the spread of propaganda on social media platforms. The firewall is equipped with deep packet inspection technology, enabling authorities to identify and block IP addresses associated with anti-state activities.

The project aims to safeguard national security while maintaining a harmonious digital environment. It is expected that normal access to social media services will be restored within two to three days following the trial.

The firewall also provides the government with the ability to monitor and control online activity, helping to prevent the dissemination of harmful content. Although NetMag reached out to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for comment, no official response had been received by the time of publication.
