The federal government has decided to shut down the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) as part of its effort to exit non-essential business operations. This decision was confirmed by the Secretary of Industries & Production during a Senate Standing Committee meeting on Industries and Production on Friday.

In response to Senator Saifullah Niazi’s question about the future of the Utility Stores, the Secretary explained that the government is working to reassign USC employees to other institutions. He added that the subsidies provided to utility stores have been distorting market competition, which also contributed to the decision to close the USC.
