Google has unveiled the latest addition to its popular #BestPhonesForever ad campaign, once again taking playful jabs at Apple’s iPhone. This series, which humorously personifies smartphones from both companies, has gained attention for its light-hearted critiques of Apple’s devices.

The newest ad centers around a significant development in mobile messaging: Apple’s recent adoption of the RCS (Rich Communication Services) standard. With the launch of iOS 18 earlier this week, Apple has finally integrated RCS, following years of persistent urging from Google.

This shift represents a key milestone in cross-platform communication. For the first time, iPhone and Android users can seamlessly exchange high-quality images and videos via text messages, regardless of which device they use. In the United States, unlike many other regions where apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger dominate, traditional text messaging remains highly popular. This is largely due to early bundling of text messages in US phone plans, a practice adopted much later in other countries.

Google’s new video, a continuation of its #BestPhonesForever series, capitalizes on this unique messaging landscape with its signature humor. However, the comedic tone of the ad may resonate differently depending on the viewer’s preferences in the iOS versus Android rivalry. Some may find the humor light and entertaining, while others could view it as awkward or cringeworthy.
