YouTube is rolling out a series of new updates designed to enhance the experience for both viewers and creators. These changes, based on user feedback, focus on personalization, control, and ease of use across web, mobile, TV, and YouTube Music platforms.

Enhanced Playback Speed Control

One of the standout updates is the ability to fine-tune playback speed in increments of 0.05, providing more precise control over video playback. This update expands on the previous 0.25-speed increments, allowing users to adjust video speed more precisely.

Mini-Player Revamp and Improved Mobile Experience

YouTube’s mobile app has received a makeover with an improved mini-player. Users can now resize and move the mini-player while continuing to browse for new videos. Additionally, iOS users will soon see an enhanced landscape browsing mode, with larger thumbnails and bigger text, rolling out later this year.

Collaborative Playlists and Interactive Features

YouTube is adding more collaborative features to playlists. Users can now invite others to contribute to playlists through a link or QR code. New customization options allow users to add personal or AI-generated thumbnails to their playlists. An upcoming voting feature will let friends and creators vote on videos within a playlist, making the experience more interactive.

Sleep Timer for Mobile Users

To help users avoid falling asleep mid-video, YouTube is introducing a new Sleep Timer feature. This feature, which was initially tested with Premium members, is now available to all mobile users. It allows viewers to set a time limit for videos, automatically stopping playback after the specified duration.

Community Badges for Mobile Users

In a move to celebrate user engagement, YouTube is introducing badges that users can earn by reaching specific milestones, such as being a top commenter or listener. These badges will be visible in the “You” tab for mobile users, highlighting community involvement.

Improved TV Interface and Shorts Integration

TV viewers will notice a refreshed interface designed to enhance the cinematic viewing experience on YouTube. The update includes new features for YouTube Shorts and immersive previews of creator content on channel pages. This design update ensures users can enjoy uninterrupted viewing while still being able to interact with content, read comments, or browse products.
