FBR Struggles to Meet January 2025 Revenue Collection Target

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is facing challenges in achieving its revenue collection target for January 2025. According to sources, the tax authority has so far managed to collect Rs. 800 billion against the set target of Rs. 950 billion, leaving a shortfall of Rs. 150 billion to be collected within the remaining days of the month.

Despite this gap, FBR officials remain confident about meeting the revenue collection target for the fiscal year 2025 (FY25). They expect tax revenues to rise in the coming months as economic activity gains momentum.

Insiders have also dismissed speculation about the introduction of a mini-budget to boost tax collection, reaffirming FBR’s optimism that upcoming months will see improved revenue generation.

It is important to note that FBR faced a massive shortfall in revenue collection during the first six months of the fiscal year, with a deficit of Rs. 386 billion against the assigned target of Rs. 6,009 billion for the period.

For FY25, the government has set an ambitious tax collection target of Rs. 12,913 billion, representing a 40% increase compared to FY24.
