The Punjab government has established 30 Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS) across the province, including in Lahore, to monitor pollution levels in real-time and enhance air quality surveillance.
This initiative, launched by the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department (EP&CCD), is part of the World Bank-supported Punjab Green Development Program (PGDP). The data collected will assist in crafting effective strategies to improve air quality.
In response to growing pollution concerns, the government introduced the Climate Resilient Punjab Vision and Action Plan in March of last year. The installation of AQMS is a vital component of this plan’s implementation.

Lahore now hosts five mobile air quality monitoring units and eight fixed stations, while other cities like Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, and Sialkot are also equipped with monitoring stations.
These stations provide real-time data on pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, CO, SO2, NO2, and O3, along with weather conditions. Officials highlight that this data will empower policymakers to take focused actions to reduce pollution and safeguard public health. Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that these stations will contribute to climate initiatives and help in creating a cleaner, healthier Punjab.
