OpenAI Expands Operator AI Agent Globally

OpenAI has announced the international expansion of Operator, its AI-powered automation assistant, following its initial U.S. launch in January 2025. Operator is now available to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in multiple regions, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the U.K. However, the expansion does not yet include the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.

What is Operator?

Operator is an advanced AI assistant designed to automate everyday tasks such as booking tickets, making restaurant reservations, filing expense reports, and handling online shopping. Unlike traditional chatbots, it actively interacts with third-party websites and services to execute tasks on behalf of users.

Availability and Pricing

Currently, Operator is exclusive to ChatGPT Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month for access. The service operates through a dedicated webpage and functions within a separate browser window, allowing users to intervene when needed. OpenAI has also confirmed plans to integrate Operator with all ChatGPT clients in the future.

Competition and Market Position

With this expansion, OpenAI aims to establish Operator as a leading AI automation tool. It faces competition from similar AI-powered services by Google, Anthropic, and Rabbit. However, Google’s AI agent is still in a waitlist phase, Anthropic’s automation tool is currently API-based, and Rabbit’s AI-driven action model is limited to its device owners.

Despite its high pricing and restricted availability, OpenAI’s Operator presents a major step forward in AI-powered task automation, offering advanced functionalities beyond simple chatbot interactions.
