Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz officially inaugurated the electric bus transport system in Lahore on Wednesday, marking a significant step toward a greener and more efficient public transportation system.

Green Punjab Vision Becoming a Reality

During the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the project is a major step toward realizing the dream of a “Green Punjab.” She highlighted that the introduction of electric buses would provide affordable, eco-friendly, and safe public transport for the people of Lahore.

Electric Bus Fleet and Facilities

  • 27 electric buses have already arrived in Lahore to kickstart the project.
  • The bus fare has been set at an affordable rate to ensure accessibility for the public.
  • Senior citizens, students, and differently-abled individuals can travel for free using the electric bus card.
  • Each bus will be equipped with free internet and mobile charging facilities.

Affordable Bus Fare & Future Expansion

The fare for electric buses has been fixed at Rs. 20, making it an economical mode of transportation.

  • Students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will enjoy free travel privileges.
  • 500 additional electric buses will be introduced in August to expand the service.
  • Metrobus services will soon be launched in Faisalabad and Gujranwala by the next financial year.

Electric Bikes Initiative for Students

Reaffirming her commitment to modern transportation solutions, Maryam Nawaz also announced the provision of 100,000 modern electric bikes for students to promote sustainable mobility.
