In January 2025, Pakistan witnessed a notable shift from 3G to 4G networks, as reported by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). The combined 3G and 4G user base grew from 138.496 million in December 2024 to 139.95 million by the end of January 2025. This growth was accompanied by an increase in Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration, rising from 56.58% to 57.08%, indicating a steady rise in mobile internet adoption. Additionally, Pakistan’s overall teledensity, representing telecom connections per 100 individuals, climbed from 80% to 80.4%. The total number of cellular subscribers also expanded, reaching 194.508 million, up from 193.308 million in December 2024.

Jazz maintained its lead in the 4G market, with its user base growing from 50.061 million to 51.552 million, while its 3G service remained inactive. Zong saw an increase in 4G users from 38.552 million to 39.124 million, but its 3G subscribers slightly declined from 1.834 million to 1.801 million. Similarly, Telenor experienced a drop in 3G users from 1.325 million to 1.255 million, while its 4G subscribers rose from 25.428 million to 25.675 million. Ufone also reported a decline in 3G users, from 1.997 million to 1.946 million, but its 4G user base grew from 16.541 million to 16.849 million.

This data highlights a clear trend of consumers transitioning from 3G to 4G networks, driven by the demand for faster and more reliable mobile internet services. The growth reflects Pakistan’s increasing digital adoption, supported by expanding network coverage and improved connectivity.
