The 2025 Asia Cup is set to be played in a neutral country, despite India officially holding the hosting rights. The decision comes as a result of ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, leading the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to relocate the tournament.

Neutral Venue to Avoid India-Pakistan Travel Issues

India and Pakistan have not hosted bilateral series against each other for years due to political and security concerns. To ensure both teams’ participation without logistical complications, the tournament will be played in a neutral location. UAE and Sri Lanka are the top contenders to host the event, though the final venue has yet to be confirmed.

Tournament Format and India-Pakistan Showdowns

The 2025 Asia Cup will feature eight teams:

  • India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong.

The tournament format guarantees an India-Pakistan clash in the group stage, and if both teams advance to the Super Four, another encounter is likely. Additionally, if both sides make it to the final, a third meeting could take place—potentially making it one of the most anticipated tournaments in recent memory.

Future Asia Cup Editions

The 2025 Asia Cup is the first of four planned editions leading up to 2031:

  • 2027: Bangladesh (ODI format)
  • 2029: Pakistan (T20 format, likely in a neutral venue)
  • 2031: Sri Lanka (ODI format)

Although India remains the official host for 2025, the final location is still undecided, setting the stage for an exciting and competitive tournament.
