Starlink is anticipated to commence its satellite internet services in Pakistan by November or December 2025, according to IT Minister Shaza Fatima, who briefed the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology during a recent meeting.

The minister clarified that there are currently no obstacles in the licensing process, but emphasized that satellite internet is a new and evolving technology, requiring a thorough evaluation from multiple angles. A consultant has been hired to assist in drafting the final regulatory framework for such services.

Once these regulations are finalized, Starlink will need to formally reapply for a full operational license, she said.

In addition to Starlink, Shanghai Spacecom, a Chinese firm, has also submitted an application to provide satellite internet services in Pakistan.

During the meeting, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Major General (retd) Hafeez-ur-Rehman, informed the committee that Starlink currently holds a temporary license, but a full license will only be issued once the regulatory framework is officially in place.

He added that Starlink’s licensing process is ongoing, and the company will be required to reapply under the new regulatory conditions. The committee concluded the meeting with optimism that Starlink’s infrastructure deployment would be completed soon, enabling the company to become operational before the end of the year.
