In a major crackdown on smuggling, Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, have seized 95 high-value smartphones from a passenger arriving from Sharjah. The seized devices, worth millions of rupees, were found concealed in the luggage of Mumtaz Muzaffar, a resident of Sialkot, who landed on flight 501-9P of a private airline.

Operation Conducted on Tip-Off, Passenger Arrested

The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by Collector Customs Taiba Kiani, according to a customs department spokesperson. Authorities have arrested the passenger and registered a case, sending a strong message to those involved in illegal import activities.

Ongoing Crackdown on Smuggling Nationwide

This incident adds to a series of high-profile smuggling cases in recent months. Authorities have intensified efforts to curb the illegal entry of electronics and luxury goods, aiming to protect local industries and ensure consumer safety.

Earlier this year, customs officials at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, seized a shipment of counterfeit electronics, underlining the challenges in monitoring unlawful imports. These enforcement actions are seen as crucial for both revenue generation and public protection, as smuggled products often fail to meet quality and safety standards.
