OpenAI, the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence leader, is reportedly working on launching its own AI-integrated social media platform. According to sources, the upcoming platform is expected to challenge the likes of Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) and Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. However, the specifics of how OpenAI plans to embed AI into this social experience are still under wraps.

AI Meets Social: A ChatGPT-Based Public Feed

As reported by The Verge, OpenAI is building what’s being described as an “X-like social network” with an AI twist. Sources claim that an early prototype is already in existence, centering around ChatGPT’s GPT-4o-powered image generation capabilities.

The platform is rumored to feature a public feed where users can showcase AI-generated images, hinting at a creative, community-driven ecosystem rather than a conventional social network. CEO Sam Altman has reportedly sought external feedback on the prototype, though it’s still unclear whether the project will become a standalone app or simply be an added feature within ChatGPT.

Interestingly, OpenAI’s video generation platform Sora also includes a similar feed but lacks the interactive social layer — no creator details are shown on its public display.

A New Rivalry in the Making

If the project moves forward, OpenAI’s entry into social media would intensify its ongoing rivalry with industry giants like Meta and X. The relationship between Elon Musk and Sam Altman has already been tense, with Musk filing a lawsuit against OpenAI earlier this year and reportedly making a bid to acquire the company — a move that Altman humorously declined, suggesting instead that OpenAI would buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.

As AI continues to shape the future of digital experiences, OpenAI’s move could mark a major shift in how users interact, share, and create content on social platforms.
