Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) has signed a major agreement with Microsoft to construct and operate a hyperscale data center in the UAE. Valued at 2 billion dirhams (approximately $544.54 million), the partnership was officially announced during Dubai AI Week. The data center will be developed and managed by du, with Microsoft serving as the primary tenant. Designed to be built in phases, the facility’s modular approach allows for scalable deployment based on regional demand. This strategic project will support Microsoft’s expanding cloud and AI services in the region, including through its Azure platform.

Fahad Al Hassawi, CEO of du, described the partnership as a significant milestone in the company’s mission to transform the UAE’s digital infrastructure. “This is a pivotal leap in our strategic goal to revolutionize the digital ecosystem of the UAE,” he said, highlighting the long-term potential for digital innovation across multiple sectors.

Hyperscale data centers play a vital role in providing large-scale cloud computing and data storage. The new center will significantly boost du’s existing infrastructure, which currently includes five operational data centers.

This initiative aligns with the UAE’s broader vision to become a global leader in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and smart technologies. The project is also expected to contribute to job creation and increase demand for skilled professionals in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, and data engineering.

Beyond boosting technological capabilities, the data center will support the UAE’s national goals by empowering startups, improving government digital services, and accelerating digital transformation across key industries.
