Heatwave to Scorch Pakistan, Rain Forecast from May 1

The Met Office has forecasted a significant change in weather patterns starting April 26th, as a high-pressure system is expected to dominate the upper atmosphere. This system is likely to cause a notable rise in temperatures across Pakistan, particularly in the southern and northern regions.

Heatwave Conditions:

  • From April 26th to May 1st, the southern half of the country—including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan—is expected to experience daytime temperatures 5 to 7°C above normal.

  • In the upper half—covering central and upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—temperatures are anticipated to remain 4 to 6°C above average between April 27th and April 30th.

Rain Expected in Northern Regions:
A fresh weather system is likely to enter the northern parts of Pakistan from April 30th. Under its influence, rain, wind, and thunderstorms (with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms) are expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, the Pothohar region including northeast Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on April 30th and May 1st.

  • Farmers should plan wheat harvesting and livestock care in accordance with the weather conditions.

  • Increased temperatures may accelerate snowmelt in the northern areas from April 27th to May 1st.

  • Residents are urged to use water wisely in all aspects of life.

  • Possible wind-dust storms, hailstorms, and lightning may cause damage to loose structures, including trees, electric poles, vehicles, and solar panels in the impacted northern areas.
