The federal government has announced a modest reduction in petroleum prices, lowering the rates of petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs. 2 per litre. Effective May 1, 2025, the revised price of petrol stands at Rs. 252.63, while high-speed diesel will now cost Rs. 256.64 per litre.
Petroleum Prices Reduced Slightly as Govt Diverts Savings to Balochistan Development Projects
This revision follows the previous fortnightly price review, where rates remained unchanged despite a significant decline in global oil prices. At that time, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the government would redirect the financial savings from falling international prices toward key national development projects instead of offering immediate relief to consumers.

The funds are now being utilized for the dualization of the strategically important N-25 highway, linking Chaman, Quetta, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Karachi. In addition, the government is channeling the savings into completing Phase 2 of the Kachhi Canal project. This initiative aims to irrigate vast agricultural land in Balochistan, contributing to regional prosperity and national growth.
