The Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-1 (C-1) has set a historic milestone by operating continuously for 400 days — the longest uninterrupted run by any nuclear plant in Pakistan to date. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 365 days set by Units C-2 and C-4 of the same plant.
Operated by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), the Chashma complex near Mianwali houses four of the six nuclear power units currently contributing a combined 3,530 MW to the national grid. The remaining two plants, K-2 and K-3, are situated near Karachi.

This operational milestone reflects the dedication and technical excellence of PAEC’s scientists, engineers, and technicians, who ensured the plant ran safely and efficiently. Member Power of PAEC extended congratulations to the Chashma Nuclear Power Generation Station (CNPGS) team for maintaining high capacity factors while upholding all safety standards.
The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) also played a vital role in maintaining grid stability, which was essential for the plant’s continuous operation.
PAEC’s consistent performance aligns with Pakistan’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, aimed at ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. Since the connection of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP) to the national grid in 1972, PAEC has continued to demonstrate strong operational capabilities in the nuclear energy sector.
