U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the recent escalation between India and Pakistan following India’s military strike on Pakistani territory. Describing the situation as “a shame,” Trump expressed concern and urged for a swift resolution to the hostilities.

“It’s a shame. We just heard about it as we were walking through the doors of the Oval. Just heard about it,” Trump said when asked about the growing tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

The president acknowledged the historical roots of the conflict, stating, “They’ve been fighting for a long time. They’ve been fighting for many, many decades. And centuries if you think about it.” He concluded his remarks by expressing hope: “I hope it ends very quickly.”

The military actions follow a deadly attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir, which left 26 people dead. India has attributed the assault to Pakistan-based elements, though Islamabad has strongly denied any involvement.
