Five people were killed, and two others were seriously injured in a helicopter crash near Ganganani in Uttarkashi district, Uttarakhand, India, on Thursday morning. The helicopter, carrying six tourists and a pilot, crashed in a mountainous area close to the Indo-China border. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
Emergency response teams, including personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), rushed to the site following the incident. The two injured passengers were immediately taken for urgent medical treatment.
Images released by local authorities showed the mangled interior of the helicopter, with blood-stained seats. Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the situation and stated that relief operations were underway.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and confirmed an official investigation into the cause of the crash. In a social media statement, he conveyed, “The extremely distressing news has been received about the loss of lives in a helicopter crash near Gangnani. SDRF and district administration teams have reached the accident site for relief and rescue operations.”
The Chief Minister assured that he remains in constant contact with officials and directed the administration to provide all necessary assistance to the injured.
