Mobile Phone Imports Fall by Over 14% in Pakistan Amid Broader Trade Expansion

Mobile phone imports into Pakistan fell by 14.21% during the first ten months (July–April) of the ongoing fiscal year 2024–25, according to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The country imported mobile phones worth $1.254 billion during this period, compared to $1.462 billion in the same timeframe last year.

The decline was more pronounced on a year-on-year basis. In April 2025 alone, mobile phone imports dropped by 22.47%, falling to $125.12 million from $161.38 million in April 2024. Month-on-month, April’s imports also slipped 3.96% from $130.27 million recorded in March 2025.

Despite the drop in mobile phone imports, Pakistan’s overall trade activity showed improvement. Exports during the July–April 2025 period rose by 6.40% to $26.90 billion, compared to $25.28 billion in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Imports also increased by 7.55%, totaling $48.29 billion—up from $44.90 billion last year—indicating a rise in economic activity and broader consumer and industrial demand.
