A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck near the island of Crete, Greece, early Wednesday, with tremors felt as far as Egypt. The quake occurred at a depth of 35 km near Karpathos in the Mediterranean Sea. Greek authorities issued a temporary tsunami warning, urging residents to move away from the coast.

No injuries or major damage have been reported, but officials continue to monitor the situation closely. Tourists, including Londoner Tom O’Neill, described shaking and falling objects during the roughly one-minute quake. Despite the warning, travel advisories remain unchanged, though visitors to Crete’s east coast, Kasos, and Karpathos should stay updated.
