Punjab Police Crack Down on Kite Flying, Over 3,300 Arrested in 2025

In a province-wide crackdown on kite flying, the Punjab Police have arrested 3,375 individuals so far this year for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act, according to an official spokesperson. A total of 3,301 FIRs have been registered, with challans submitted in 3,060 cases.

Authorities have seized a massive 446,506 kites and 15,888 spools of string in connection with these violations. The city of Lahore alone accounted for 1,010 arrests, 991 FIRs, and the seizure of 24,824 kites and 1,168 spools.

By comparison, in 2024, Punjab saw 12,525 arrests and 11,866 cases registered for similar offenses, indicating a consistent enforcement effort against the illegal activity.

The Inspector General of Punjab Police has directed all officers, including RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs, to strictly enforce the amended Kite Flying Prohibition Bill. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy, especially against those involved in the manufacture, sale, or online distribution of kites and metallic string. The IG termed kite flying a life-threatening practice and called for intensified operations across the province to eliminate the menace.
