A powerful windstorm followed by heavy rainfall swept through Punjab, resulting in widespread destruction and claiming at least 13 lives, with over 90 people injured, according to a preliminary report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released on Sunday.
Most of the fatalities occurred due to collapsing structures and accidents involving individuals caught in dangerous locations during the storm. Reports from several districts detailed incidents involving falling trees, dislodged solar panels, and damaged infrastructure.
The casualty breakdown includes three deaths in Jhelum, two each in Lahore and Sialkot, and one each in Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and other impacted areas. A total of 92 injuries have been reported, 41 of which are directly attributed to storm-related causes, as per PDMA records.

In response, PDMA has issued safety advisories urging the public to stay indoors during thunderstorms and to ensure that children remain clear of aging or structurally compromised buildings. In case of emergencies, the public is advised to call PDMA’s helpline at 1129.
While Punjab bore the brunt of the storm, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir also experienced rainfall, resulting in a temporary drop in temperatures and a brief reprieve from the intense summer heat.
