The federal government has announced a new initiative to provide 70 percent of energy-saving fans to consumers on easy monthly installments, with repayments conveniently deducted through electricity bills.

According to the Ministry of Energy, this program is part of a broader effort to lower electricity consumption by encouraging the adoption of low-wattage ceiling fans, which use nearly half the power of traditional models. The move is expected to significantly reduce household electricity bills.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the Rs. 7.41 per unit electricity tariff relief introduced by the Prime Minister remains in effect. Energy-saving fans typically consume only 45–55 watts, compared to 80–130 watts used by conventional ceiling fans. A household using four such fans could save between 70 to 80 electricity units monthly, potentially lowering electricity bills by up to 15 percent.

Officials emphasized that switching to energy-efficient appliances will not only provide financial relief to consumers but also strengthen national energy conservation efforts, especially during periods of energy shortage.
