Mother Returns Fugitive Son to Authorities After Karachi Jail Escape

In the aftermath of the mass jailbreak at Karachi’s Malir Jail following a recent earthquake, a mother took the extraordinary step of personally returning her fugitive son to the authorities.

The earthquake caused significant damage to the jail, resulting in the escape of 213 prisoners. So far, 78 inmates have been recaptured, and one was killed during the incident. One escaped prisoner returned home, where his mother counseled him and took responsibility by bringing him back to the jail under police supervision.

At the jail entrance, the mother handed her son over to the police, pleading for mercy and acknowledging her son’s mistake. Her sincere act of accountability has been widely praised on social media, with many hailing her as a symbol of honesty and integrity.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that most escapees are drug addicts and that the escape occurred through the jail gate while prisoners were being moved to an open courtyard for safety during the earthquake. Frontier Constabulary personnel attempted to stop the escape, firing warning shots that resulted in one prisoner’s death and injuries to several officers.

Authorities are urging the remaining fugitives to surrender voluntarily, promising leniency for those who do. Dedicated teams continue their efforts to track down those still on the run. The mother’s courageous gesture stands out as a powerful example of responsibility amidst the ongoing manhunt.
