In a pioneering move, the British examination board Learning Resource Network (LRN) has become the first in the world to formally introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a subject at the international GCSE and A-levels.
This historic development allows students between the ages of 14 to 19 worldwide to study AI as part of their school curriculum through LRN-accredited institutions. The new qualifications are designed to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills required in an era increasingly dominated by advanced technologies.
Dr. Muhammad Zohaib Tariq, Chief Executive of LRN, announced that the curriculum will encompass core AI principles, practical real-world applications, and the ethical challenges posed by AI systems. He emphasized that the subject carries equal academic weight to traditional disciplines like Mathematics and Physics.

“This is Britain taking the lead in AI education,” said Dr. Tariq. “By launching the world’s first full school qualification in Artificial Intelligence, we’re setting a global benchmark — giving students everywhere the opportunity to lay strong academic foundations for an AI-driven future.”
With AI transforming industries across the globe, this curriculum inclusion represents a landmark shift in aligning modern education with the technological demands of tomorrow.
