Mohammad Shehzad, a 64-year-old rower from Pakistan, etched his name in history by winning the gold medal in the 60+ singles category at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship held in Pattaya, Thailand. Competing from May 26 to 31, the event brought together top athletes from across Asia to compete on indoor rowing machines like the Concept2 ergometer.

Shehzad not only claimed victory but also set a new Asian record with an impressive time of 1:32.30, surpassing his younger Indian rival, James Joseph. His remarkable performance was lauded by his daughter, Mahoor Shahzad—an Olympian who represented Pakistan at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics—who celebrated her father’s achievement on X (formerly Twitter).

Pakistan had a commendable overall showing at the championship, winning 14 medals in total, including 10 golds, 3 silvers, and 1 bronze. Other standout performances came from Abdul Jabbar and Tayyab Iftikhar.
