The Sindh government has announced an expansion of its eco-friendly public transport initiatives with new funding allocated for electric vehicle (EV) taxis and scooters in the fiscal year 2025–26.

The decision was made in a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Key officials, including Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, SMTA MD Kamal Dayo, and TransKarachi CEO Fuad Ghaffar Soomro, reviewed existing projects and set ambitious new goals for the province’s transport sector.

EV Scooters for Women
Under the upcoming plans, electric scooters will be distributed free of cost to women through a transparent balloting process. Eligible recipients include students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs who possess a valid two-wheeler license. To encourage wider adoption, bike-riding training will be made available across Sindh, with female instructors conducting the sessions.

In a bid to support unemployed youth, the government will introduce electric taxis on easy installment plans. These vehicles will be offered through financing models being developed in partnership with local banks. The objective is to enable beneficiaries to eventually own the vehicles and build sustainable income streams.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to green transport and social empowerment by supporting women’s mobility and youth employment.
