Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the substantial salary and perk increases awarded to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairman of the Senate, as reported by ARY News.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over similar pay raises given to Senate Deputy Chairman Sardar Syedaal Khan Nasar and National Assembly Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah. He has requested comprehensive reports from both parliamentary heads to review the matter before making a final decision regarding the salary adjustments.

As per a notification dated May 29, the salaries of the Senate Chairman and National Assembly Speaker were increased from Rs. 205,000 to Rs. 1,300,000. Additionally, they are to receive 50% of the revised salary as a sumptuary allowance.
Earlier, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif criticized the move, calling it an example of “financial extravagance,” especially amid the country’s ongoing economic challenges.
