A formal case has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station under the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act, along with additional charges related to incitement of child marriage.

Officials stressed the need for strict enforcement of laws to protect minors from early and forced marriages. They reiterated their commitment to curbing such practices, especially in vulnerable communities.

This case is one of several recent actions taken across Pakistan to combat child marriage. In a significant legislative move, President Asif Ali Zardari recently signed the Child Marriage Restraint Bill into law, establishing 18 years as the minimum legal age for marriage for both boys and girls in the federal capital. The law imposes up to three years of rigorous imprisonment for adults marrying minors and also holds Nikah registrars accountable, with penalties including fines and imprisonment for those who solemnize underage marriages.

Authorities continue to urge public awareness and cooperation in reporting and preventing child marriage incidents across the country.
