Iran-Russia Bolster Alliance Amid U.S.-Israel Strikes on Nuclear Sites
As Iran endures aggressive military strikes from both the United States and Israel, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s visit to Moscow on Monday marked a critical diplomatic milestone. Meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Araghchi emphasized Tehran and Moscow’s strategic coordination on regional stability and nuclear issues.
The high-level discussions occurred just a day after U.S. forces launched controversial airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities—Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow—prompting widespread international condemnation. Russia’s envoy to the UN had already labeled the attacks as violations of international law during an emergency Security Council session.
Araghchi praised the historical depth and evolution of Iran-Russia relations, highlighting their transformation into a strategic alliance. The talks coincided with Iran’s Operation True Promise III, a military retaliation involving advanced missile strikes on Israeli-held territories in response to a string of Israeli-American aggressions, including the June 13 assassination of senior Iranian officials.

Iran’s foreign minister stressed continued collaboration with Russia on nuclear diplomacy, pointing out Moscow’s constructive role in past negotiations and its ongoing commitment to upholding international norms. Araghchi described Iran’s retaliatory measures as legitimate self-defense under the UN Charter and expressed appreciation for Russia’s unwavering diplomatic support.
President Putin condemned the joint U.S.-Israel strikes as “unjustified” and reiterated Russia’s readiness to find peaceful resolutions. He welcomed Araghchi’s presence in Moscow as a timely opportunity to coordinate strategic responses and strengthen regional security frameworks.
Putin reaffirmed the long-standing trust between the two nations and assured continued Russian backing for the Iranian people. He also extended personal greetings to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian.
