Sparx Smartphones, a local brand known for producing affordable mobile devices in Pakistan, is reportedly facing serious operational setbacks and may be preparing to shut down its operations, according to sources familiar with the matter.

A recent report published on a digital platform claims that Sparx has significantly reduced its activity over the past quarter. The company’s most recent flagship device, launched around four to five months ago, failed to perform well in the market. Since then, there have been no new product announcements or launches.

Adding to the speculation, Sparx’s official social media platforms have gone silent for over a month. Additionally, the brand’s Karachi office appears to have been vacated and reportedly taken over by another smartphone assembler. However, Deploy Group, the parent company of Sparx, has not released any formal statement about the closure or office relocation.

Import data indicates that Sparx and its affiliates have imported only limited quantities of smartphone components in recent months, while existing stock is being sold at significantly reduced prices—a typical sign of companies winding down operations.

Retailers and after-sales service providers have also voiced concerns over:

  • Delays in warranty claims
  • Spare part shortages
  • Reduced after-sales support

Despite these indicators, Sparx executives have downplayed the situation, claiming that operations are still ongoing, and have directed media inquiries to the Pakistan Mobile Phone Association (PMPA).

Industry analysts warn that if Sparx exits the market, thousands of customers could be left without access to essential support services such as repairs, spare parts, or software updates.

The unfolding situation has sparked calls for greater regulatory oversight and increased transparency, especially from local manufacturers, to protect consumer interests and industry credibility.

While Sparx leadership continues to deny market exit rumors, the decline in activity and distribution strongly suggests that the brand is scaling down, if not preparing for a full withdrawal.
