Andy Byron, CEO of tech company Astronomer, has resigned following a viral video clip that captured an intimate moment between him and the company’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot, during a Coldplay concert. The incident, which quickly spread across social media, triggered public outrage and led to swift consequences.
The video showed Byron and Cabot in a cringeworthy embrace broadcast live on the concert’s jumbotron. Once they realized they were on camera, both appeared visibly startled—Byron awkwardly ducking out of frame and Cabot spinning around to hide her face. The awkward moment sent social media into a frenzy, with users reacting with humor and criticism alike. Some joked, “When HR says no office relationships, but means ‘except me,’” while others condemned the behavior, especially since Byron is reportedly married.

Facing mounting backlash, Byron stepped down from his leadership role. Astronomer issued a formal statement acknowledging the resignation:
“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.”
Before his resignation, the company had already initiated an internal investigation into the incident. Astronomer has since appointed co-founder Pete DeJoy as the interim CEO.
As for Kristin Cabot’s status within the company, Astronomer declined to comment, and it remains unclear whether she continues to serve in her role.
Adding a bizarre twist to the controversy, a fake apology letter purportedly from Byron circulated online. The letter, laced with exaggerated drama, was later exposed as the work of a parody account, further fueling the scandal’s reach.
The incident has raised broader questions about executive conduct, workplace relationships, and the very real risks of public displays of affection in the digital age—especially when the jumbotron is watching.
